I have a truck that has a team in it that runs from florida to NY and PA.
the truck covers about 4000 miles a week.
I have been paying each driver $1200 Salary to pick up Monday in Florida and finish Friday in Florida
One driver just informed me that he now wants $1500 a week or hes quitting.
what would you do?
What would you do?

How long have they been making the run? Do they give you any problems? How many people did you look at before you hired them? You need to ask and answer a lot of questions before you can make that decision.

its been about 6 months. this is an extortion attempt Im sure.
The truck cannot afford a salary increase, Its barely making enough to cover the salaries now
besides, hes driving 2000 to 2500 miles a week making $1200.00 a week. that averages about .50 cents a mile for a team driver, thats MORE than a good wage I would say! -
There ya go! It sounds like you already have your answer but aren't looking forward to the hassle. I would personally tell anybody who threatened to quit on me for such a thing to just go on home and not worry about it. But that's just me.
Starboyjim Thanks this. -
I don't deal well with threats. Id have fired him on the spot. Assuming you are a legit employer paying on a w2 and not some disorganized fly by night 1099 outfut, you will have no problem getting a dozen drivers to replace him with just a little hiring effort.

Starboyjim and CJndaTruck Thank this. -
I'm not going to pay the team 3000 a week to cover 4000 to 5000 miles a week. No way could I afford that!
I'm just wondering if I am paying enough at $1200 a week -
Is that 1200 take home? For a mon- fri gig don't sound too bad to me.

$1200 salary. The married driver takes home 1000, single driver 900
Drivers are W2 -
My advice.........Tell him it isn't going to happen and be ready to replace him.

I'd start looking for a new driver. If he just felt he was worth a pay raise, and he was being reasonable, he'd ask for a 5-10 percent raise. 60-120 bucks. He's asking for 25 percent. You are paying good enough that 25 percent is too much. Unless.....how are your benefits? Is your driver having to pay for his own health insurance? Just a thought.
