    No benefits, can't afford them

Are team drivers really getting 50 cents a mile now? That's 1 a mile just in salary!!

The bottom line is you can only pay what you can afford to pay. In the end, you are the only one that can make that decision. If the driver can't work for what you can pay then he should move on and you should find somebody who can.

Nobody is 'hating' on the driver. Merely speaking in facts. For one, I wouldn't stand for an employee telling me 'give me this much money or I quit'. That isn't how to get a raise. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but that just wasn't the way I was taught to be.

    Well this change everything.

Consider, a typical solo driver at a decent company can earn approximately 55 to 65k in annual income, with all the benefits. Team drivers expect more than typical solo wages. that is your baseline. If you want to attract decent drivers you are gonna have to match it. that may mean you need to increase revenue by finding better paying freight.

1.70 a mile up from Florida to the NE back to Florida 1.80 a mile

If you can find better loads every week then I have a bridge to sell you

These are not spot rates, they are planned a week out

The approach. There is a right way to negotiate a pay increase with your boss, and there is threatening/trying to extort a pay raise.

Exactly! I can tell you that if one of my employees approached me that way he/she would be out the door so fast they would wonder if they had ever been there to start with. :0
