if you had a trainer that pushed you to speed? Or to get into situations that you aren't comfortable with?

What are some things that learned from a trainer that were good and some that were bad?

Don't break the law. Period. Protect your CDL. No one else will if you won't.

But... do not be afraid to stretch your skills. That's what you're there to do: learn how to drive and back in real life, and it isn't all easy mode. I could list hundreds of times where I ran across stuff no one trained me to do. You are learning judgement and coping skills, too.

That being said, there are "bad" trainers. And "bad for YOU" trainers. Try and work it out. If not, get routed back and get another trainer.

Trainer made me back into a parking spot everytime we parked, no pull-thrus. When trainer says to do something you think is wrong laugh and say "no, did I pass the test?" This tells him you are not up for breaking rules & saves his pride. If he's dumb enough to ask again "are you serious?"

Had a strange experience with trainer who was all about dodging the local scale. I followed his lead because I was new to the area and he almost got me in trouble giving me directions by the weigh station when we were heavy.

It was to bad because it was a regular local route, but so many people cutting corners. Eventually, I learned this guy pulled into a gas station where he could see the Weight Station OPEN or CLOSED sign. If it was closed, he drove by. If it was open, he took side streets. There was a free local scale we could use but he didn't want to be bothered.

I wound up leaving when someone yelled at me for returning because I scaled and returned to the yard because did use the free scale and I grossed 87,000. Note: the Trucking Company was the Shipper so they kept making their own loads heavy.

These guys are not trainers, they are for a lack of a better term mentors, who are supposed to guide you but not tell you have to drive so **** him, tell him no and if he has an issue with it, call safety and ask them if it is alright to speed because your "trainer" said it has to happen.

People in abusive relationships when the relationship ends usually find themselves in another abusive relationship. Do you know why he smacks you across your head? Because you allowed it. If he didnt think he could push you around, he wouldnt push you. Next, your dispatcher will push you. Then other drivers will push you.

I knew a girl that was married 5 times. 4 out of 5 husbands put her in the hospital. She was a nice girl. I always wondered 1.) how did these guys know that they could knock the starch out of her 2.) how did they know that she wouldnt leave 3.) what she would do to make guys beat on her.

Even when I was a company driver, I never had anyone in any company push on me, or try to bully me or anything. So, for the life of me, I dont understand how they spotted you people that can be bullied and how you inform them that you are bully material.

"Bullies" beware. Eventually your chosen targets can and do snap, which often is not apparent until the person in question appears with a firearm with blood in his eyes and revenge on his mind, at which point if it is you who becomes the target it will be with zero sympathy from me.
