I'm stuck at this shipper and my 14 hour has about 40 mins left and I'm at the dock still being loaded been here 7 hours. Nobody at my company is answering in any Dept I call. I called the shipper and said I have to unhook and come back when my 10 is up they said I they won't finish loading if I unhook.

I can't sleep at the dock for my 10.

I have a drop yard 2 miles away. I'm not driving in the red and next week the dot blitz starts and is focused on checking logs.

I'm told to protect my CDL and if I have to unhook and the company loses this load oh well I did my job. No reason to take 7 hours for a job that takes an hour or so.

    Should I unhook and leave?

If you've already been there 7 hours you can wait til it's 8 and do a split sleeper. And you will have the remainder of whatever you didn't use on your 11 hour limit already today.

Go back and put yourself in the sleeper for the 7 hours, and in 1 hour you will have some time back using the 8/2 split. Welcome to Elogs brother.

Does the shipper have a drop yard you can park at?

Would it be nice after you get loaded, to sit at the dock for your 10.
What you are going to do. Is what the ELD was supposed to not let you do.

    The whole system is crumbling.

Does your company allow "personal conveyance" on the logs?
I'd go ahead and log out legally so you're not in violation at that point.
Then if you must move the truck, note on the logs you're forced to move the truck against your will if the shipper makes you leave.
If your company gives you any problem about it, quit, take a week off to relax, then find a new job.

Wait, you are 7 on duty?

Put yourself into sleeper, wait until your 10, not 8 is up and then move.

Get fresh hours, you have two hours more to go, take advantage of it.

Make some excuses to stay in the dock, truck won't start ... low air pressure ... what ever.

Shut your fuel tanks off where the handvalves meet the tanks themselves.

She will crank all day without firing. She will even sputter until the filters are empty.

Don't be stupid and stand on the starter all night. Then you are really going to incur a road tow or break down call.

When your time is up it's up. Sleeper time. Stay there at the dock. They will load you sometime. If they are really baaad. They might slap a pallet or two on the tail and call it the beginning of loading. It might be morning before they put the rest of it on.

Whatever happens, stay in touch with your dispatcher. Let them be the ones to argue with the shipper. Any time a suit comes out to argue with you, refer him to your company with the phone number. (Long distance one, not the 800 number) It's not your job to argue with suits.

Without physically looking at your recap the last 9 days plus your current day's hours as of 7 PM Central this posting, i cannot help you with any advice about your remaining time if any. I leave that to the others who deal with this all the time and are much much more current and relevant than little old me.

It is my strong theory that shippers and customers do not give a ####### about you and your time. They simply do not care. period.

Now.. if you were involved in high dollar freighting where bosses DID care and loaded you or unloaded you promptly or even just drop and hooked you all the time you are doing very very well. Otherwise you are being abused just like the rest in the worst of places.

    Manage time better dude
Or it will just be another thorn in your side every day

You could very well have at least gotten 8 in sleeper and done a split. Which would allow you to make the 2 miles to terminal then take 2 more hours in sleeper if necessary and carry on.
