That is funny, I think I have the same one.
I do not think I paid that much for it though.
On the face it shows all the info I need at a glance also
Day and Date at the top.
Then time.
I do not need all the other BS at a glance cluttering up the screen.
Just the basics.
And the velcro strap is great. Easy to adjust and stays on. No pins to wear out every few months.
On the shower question.
Sometimes I take it off, and sometimes I forget too.
It does fine, but takes a good 30 min or more to dry out if I keep it on.

Does anyone know if water [like daily showering] ruins velcro?
-
I always take my watch off for a shower. If it gets wet in the rain, it isn't enough to worry.
But as far as velcro and water.
My EMS coat has velcro to close it in fair weather without using snaps or zipper. They have been on their since 1997 and still work fine. I assure you they have been soaked in the rain, snow, sleet and fire hose. -
I don't think my bf usually takes off his watch and so I wouldn't want to get him one that wears easily in water.
But after researching some more I've found out that divers and swimmers often use velcro on their clothing so velcro doesn't ruin in water.
Now I've just got to make a choice from the many many many watches that are out there! -
I would recommend that you seek one where the crystal is seated lower than the rest of the watch face. This will help protect it from scratching.
