My Seiko Alpinist has held up just fine flatbedding. Wear it all day on a steel oyster band from strapcode. Figure if it's good enough for mountaineers it's good enough for me.

I get that cellphones have a clock on the lockscreen but not everyone walks around with their cellphone in their hand. I keep mine in my back pocket and look at my wristwatch when I need to know what time it is.
