    Frank Youell Field was demolished in 1969 to make way for extra parking for Laney College.

    The first two Raider games I went to were played in San Francisco. The first one, in 1960, they played in the 49ers stadium Kezar Stadium in Golden Gate Park. It wasn't well attended. The Raiders lost. The last few games of '60 and all of the next year they played their home games at Candlestick Park, the then brand new home of the SF Giants. I saw them play the Boston Patriots there that year. They lost that one too.

    We were never able to get tickets for games at Frank Youell field. With the around 22,000 seats they were always sold out, and the Raiders had really started building their fan base. They also started winning too.

    I was thinking about that after I wrote what I wrote ... it’s still there , just looks like a parking lot. The stadium that the Raiders used to play in in San Francisco is still there , the one the 49ers also played in for a while , Kezar stadium. I got the 2 confused. At least I think Kezar stadium is still there ? They even played a few times at Cal Memorial stadium. I haven’t lived there in a long time. Do you remember there 1st year there training camp was in Santa Cruz ? I remember when there Training camp was in Santa Rosa. You sound older than I am. I’m happy they moved to Vegas. I was born in Oakland , so was my father and most of my family. None of us live there now. Oakland is ok to be FROM .... I can see a lot of family reunions now happing in Las Vegas , my kids are already hitting me up for Vegas trips. I plan to call them the Oakland Raiders of Las Vegas ... the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim use that moniker why not us ?

    The 49ers played to Kezar from their inception in the 40's until around 70-71 when they moved into an expanded Candlestick Park. The playing field there was also used by local high schools and was sometimes not in the best shape. Kezar was torn down and a new smaller facility was built onsite to accommodate the local schools.
    I remember the games at Cal. That stadium has very limited parking and the locals raised heck at them letting the Raiders play there. That was the end of that.
    And while I have always liked the Raiders, at heart, I have always been a 49er fan. Although I rarely watch football these days.
