If I'm gonna be on the road a lot, I want to be able to handle my bills and assorted business online and have easy access to my account across the country.

Any recommendations on a good, forward-thinking, hassle-free bank to belong to?

I have really enjoyed my time with Chase the last 6 years. They have nationwide service, many branches across the US, as well as ATM's. Good mobile app for smartphones as well if thats something you want to do too.

The best bank IMO is no bank at all. I'm a member of a credit union. They have what they call Share Branch, which means you can use thousands of credit unions all over the country. I have find a branch app on my Droid. Credit Union members "own" their institutions. They are non profit so the fees are low and interest rates are better. Banks are evil! :biggrin_25513:

Use a local bank or credit union, keep the money in your neighborhood....

I have used USAA for the last 15 or so years. They have great customer service and always answer the phone 24/7. Now if you are Military, retired Military, or are a dependant, or had a parent in the Military anytime in the past you can open an account with them. They don't have physical branches except down in Texas I believe; I have done all of my banking by direct deposit, Internet, or by phone. The company is run by ex-military.

Auto insurance is average in price, but they are very quick on claims, proof on insurance, new policies, changes to policies, etc. And also have folks answering phones 24/7.

Since most companies (all?) are direct deposit, simply use a local credit union that is part of the co-op financial services network. Then when you need cash head over to the co-op ATM locator and find on of the free 28,000 atms across the country.

I'll also throw in my two cents for credit unions. If you are able to qualify to join one, DO SO! They are the same as, but much different than banks. (Yeah, I know that seems a contradiction, but it isn't.)

They will offer you most, if not all of the same services as a bank will, but won't nickel and dime you to death with stupid service charges. Most of all, they are RESPONSIVE to your questions, suggestions and complaints.

Forgot to add that USAA pays you back any ATM fees that a non USAA bank may charge you for using their machine.

Not to mention they have better rates on things like loans, CDs, etc.
