hi all , ive got a question. what is the best mobile phone service provider in the usa? im canadian and have started running into the usa. My canadian phone is a pay as you go and doesnt have roaming in the states so i would like to get a usa phone to use while in the states. i will be spending 90% of my time in the usa and would like a simple phone to make calls to canada and within the states to shippers and recievers etc, i dont need internet or smart phone but if you have any info on them i would like to hear bout it. I was told verizon is popular, any ideas and answers are much appreciated.
whats a good mobile phone for the usa

Any pay to go phone is not going to give you the reception that one of the "big guys" will. I personally found Sprint to have excellent coverage. Really though they are all going to have their inns and outs. Right now I have a Droid from Verizon and it is excellent. A buddy of mine has the same phone but has MetroPcs service and the #### thing cuts out everywhere. If you are worried about emergencies such as breaking down in the desert half way between Needles and Barstow you always will have your qualcomm to back you up. Its a satellite! Unless you end up working for a really small company.

I have Sprint, the wife has Verizon....Verizon is going to have better coverage than sprint, thats who I would look into. I would go with them as well if I didn't need Direct Connect.

i have verizon as well--very few dead spots--for 2 of them i think it is about 100 a month

I live in Canada, but travel to the U.S. frequently.
I have a Verizon phone. It is the Canadian Plan. 450 minutes, no roaming, no long distance. for 59.99. You need a U.S. address,(I use a relatives) but I pay online.
works great, and bounces off of Bell towers I believe in Canada.
If you go with just a U.S. package it would be cheaper, like $40 a month. But I think when you get into Canada, I am not sure how it would work? -
i have 2 us phones--unlimited min--full roaming-100 for the 2--works great in canada except on 17 &11 lots of dead spots till you hit tbay
in us very few dead spots--little bit out west in the boonies
very happy with it---used to use rogers--and that #### near bankrupted mebulldozerbert Thanks this. -
I have sprint. Very pleased with their coverage. I found most times when I am roaming it is on a verizon tower so its almost as good as verizon. Plus you cant beat sprints plan. I pay 69.99 a month for almost unlimited everything. The only thing that has a limit is calls to land lines and I get 450 mins. I pay $10 more a month for the premium data because of my droid.

I use the Straight Talk phone from Wal Mart; uses Verizon towers. Has been great the time I have had it.

Ok the whole scoop from an ex-network engineer who has worked for all the telcos
Verizon has the best coverage in the US. Not the best plans, but great coverage.
Sprint has really good interstate coverage, but gets spotty away from main roads. Though the do have excellent plans. They still have issues withsome area codes not being able to receive calls from newer area codes.
AT&T only real claim to fame was the iPhone and that advantage will end shortly. They claim to have the fastest 3g network.. Cool, but everyone else has gone 4g.
T-Mobile. Good plans good coverage (they use verizon towers)
US Cellular. Not a chance..
Final recommendation: Verizon.. they even work in the desert between Needles and Barslow..
