a live hanger at a chicken plant makes 13.25 an hour. Americold warehouses start forklift drivers out at 11 an hour, butterball starts out at 12 something an hour

Don't they haul doubles and triples? That sounds really intimidating for a newbie. How much more difficult is it?

I was paying $650 a month after tax for a room, and now being OTR my housing is paid for. By being OTR that is like a $10k per year raise.

I know a guy just like you. He has been able to save over 50k in cash, not too mention the matching retirement from the company he pays into every month.

So you're homeless? My wife and kids won't like that much.

It is not for everybody. It is just an additional way that I add my compensation package. By saving my monies, it is probably the only way I can buy a house in CA - if I would ever want to.

Once used to it is just something to keep it your mind while driving. Main thing is only drive into spots you can drive out of , or U turn. Hooking and unhooking is some extra work , but you are paid for it.

Agree; great paychecks and home time with the famly. Those line haul jobs are gravy. The city P&D, not so much, but some drivers like that activity involved.

It's easier to pull a set of doubles than a 53 fr. van trailer. It's not intimidating; they have a good training program.

Don't eat out. Can easily cook from the truck and save yourself a lot of money
