What's a reasonable otr cpm for a brand new driver

Company I'm working for has you home every weekend (typically Friday afternoon leave out Sunday evening). Avg 2300 miles/week, 39 cpm with a 2 cpm safety bonus. That's just a bit over 49k/yr. with a 13/hr factory job, I'd have to work 62 hrs/week. No thank you.

 

You guys talk about saving money by eating out of the truck. All you guys are doing is suffering the life of a hobo working for peanuts. Then you try justifying your decision to do it. You can't afford to buy a house, eat in a restaurant, or even go home. Yet you say it's good pay. Do you guys even hear the life you are describing? It sounds like one ####ty life to me.

 

You are all ready working 62hrs a week. Don't get me wrong, if you're happy great! But, it's not that much better.

 

Do you know how expensive homes are in California? There arent many other options, thats the point.

 

62 hrs in a climate controlled environment versus 62 hrs in the heat and cold of a factory, I'll take the truck every time.

 

Then tell us, Sage Trucker, where are the ones that don't pay s***? Where are these 90 and 100k a year jobs for newbies?

 

They're never going to be any as long as people line up to work for meager wages. I don't know the entry level should pay 90k, but 60 would be a good place to start.

 

housing out there is stupid high, I don't disagree. But, your job should be able to afford you the luxury of home ownership. If not, move or change jobs.

 

Well, this thread has gone off the rails because of a few who think they know best for the rest of us. They'd probably make much better federal level politicians than truck drivers.

 

This is true, my father-in-law works in kitchen and appliances, is not even a manager and makes a little over $21 an hour. He's been there like 13-14 years though. OT is very limited but he gets bonuses and makes a little under $50,000.
