What's a reasonable otr cpm for a brand new driver

My Father-in-Law started at $14 an hour. One of my friends started in receiving there at $11.50 an hour 6-7 years ago and he makes over $15 an hour now, and is not in magement either.

Most of the cashiers do indeed start at about $10 an hour, but different departments pay more.

 

This thread is about pay for a brand new driver, and yet these people have years of experience.

 

I don't know about the rest, but a job starting you at over 40k with no experience is a #### good starting wage. Especially when you consider a lot of college degree positions can very easily be less than that. Think about a teacher, go 50k plus in to debt and get lucky to find a job that starts you at 35k. Where I live, if you make over 40k you're doing better than 60%-70% of the population.

 

I think .36 is OKAY for someone in their first 3-6 months assuming they get an average $30-$50 extra a week for thinks like short haul, Canada pay, extra stops, detention, etc plus at least a 1 cent bonus on all miles.

If a company gives a penny raise at 3 months, and a penny at 6 money, then 2 cents at 1 year, a driver doing 115,000 miles should make about $46,000 in their first year using the numbers I stated. In their second year, assuming a penny raise at 18 months, they'd make about $50,000 at 115,000 miles, a little over $52,000 at 120,000 miles.

For someone living in the middle of nowhere West Virginia, that's good money. For someone near LA? That's poverty lol.

I did. What can one say? The price of trucking Although I have no idea what company she was with, from other comments I've read, most mega companies are like that. I have a close relative who was with Schneider for a brief period of time. It didn't work out for him but evidently it does for some people.

To be fair, I do give Schneider credit for posting that information. It's more than most companies go public with, I think. Should be taken with an atomic-sized block of salt (I'll quote Beldar Conehead here and state that I have direct personal knowledge that this is so).

 

I'm like you I think they may be better than most Mega's, but still same ole song and dance.

Look all the numbers I used were right from this thread not my numbers, I didn't bring up 50 hours a week or $13 an hour I just used them. My point was from the begging was $0.36 a mile is a joke, the OP asked asked for opinions. I was just reading along until someone said they made $0.36 a mile and made $1200 a week. They left out the extra pay that brought it up to that number. The OP laid out a total package that to me was vague, I want solid numbers to work off of if I'm considering a job. I could lay out a great sounding job then when you get started it isn't what its cracked up to be. An example? There's a thread here about a driver driving a dumptruck for $15 but $12 an hour to wash his truck, if i described that job it would sound great. We pay by the hour plus we pay you to wash your truck, they don't tell you its for a lessor amount and that you only get an hour regardless of how long it actually takes. To me all this stuff is BS to possibly hide facts, pay a fair wage and be upfront about it, theres nothing wrong with starting a lower rate and working your way up as as matter of fact it should be that way.
