I'm not worried about my credibility. I never said anything about $.50 a mile I just said $.36 is a screw job and I stand by that statement. They're are a LOT of jobs that aren't appealing to me that are to others and that's fine but that doesn't make me wrong.

I should have stayed out of this. First of all you can make more than $12 an hour there and a store manager makes a whole lot more than $40,000 and no one ever said you had to stop at 40 hours. Trust me you'll work more than 40 on the road. I mentioned one company and people get ahold of that an run with it thinking they have me pinned to the wall. My point is there are PLENTY of ways to make 40 thousand a year without killing yourself.

I agree, 36 cpm sucks but a lot of us dont have any other options. And there are many companies paying less than 36cpm.

I like to drive so thats why I drive truck. OTR isnt for everyone, but I enjoy it or I wouldn't do it.

I tried local and regional and hated it. You're right, OTR isn't for everyone, but it sure is for me.

Besides "50 cpm" by itself is meaningless. Why don't you also provide a minimum mpw number to go along with it? Or are we just supposed to be mesmerized by the 50 cpm and never concern ourselves with the real average gross numbers?

Since all these better paying regular jobs exists as you claim, then I'm at a loss to explain why this thread even exists.

There's plenty of "crap pay" trainee starter offerings out there but 36 cpm isn't one of them. EVERYTHING is relative and it's very important we all remember this basic truth of life.

50 cpm is "crap pay" too ... to somebody.

I'm assuming your talking to me? First as I said I never said anything about $.50 a mile that's your number not mine. Second making $40,000 a year is child's play, there was a time in my life I had 5 jobs at the same time. I've never believed the you can't make it crap, and I'll stick by my statement $.36 a mile sucks.

What I have learned is I shouldn't go where I'm not welcome.

I agree. I make .34 cpm(straight pay) but grossed $52,500 my first full year at this company. Like others, pay isn't coming from driving only. There's stop pay, detention that varies, and layover pay on occasion. So maybe I busted my butt and worked harder than others who make more cpm and worked less, but still grossed the same $52.5K. So what? I'm not in competition with anyone out here, so the meaningless rants about low cpm and working harder and such...is just that, meaningless drivel. For now, this works for my situation(single/no kids) but I'm always keeping an eye out for better opportunities.

At lot pay by the mile, most are not the same loaded and empty. I had a sweet little tank gig. I got paid 40 cpm both ways. And hourly for other non driving work. My dad pulled tanks for 20 plus years. I am not sure he ever got paid the same both ways. As a owner op he got last I remember 65%. So no empty pays. And probably 40% empty miles. He did ok, but I wouldn't call it great.

Let be honest guys! 40k gross is not nearly enough to do this job. You'll bring home 32k and pay for all your expenses on the road. .36 cpm is too cheap this day in age. Think of all you'll miss for
    That 32k.
