I thought the rule was if you were expected to take your break (10) in the truck then they either had to let you idle, ( in summer or winter) or provide you with a room. This probably was before APU's though I think.....

Uh... What? I'm with Celadon. Only their older trucks don't have apus, but they also don't have the shutdown timer either. Most of their fleet and all of their lease trucks have the battery run generators, and they have both heating and cooling.

Well , its starting to sound like it might not be a bad idea for me to go thru refresher training to get up to speed on all the changes , since i quit driving in 90

Referring to myself....you know, an Old Fart, without his med's, remembering a company policy, thinking it was a reg. At GSF, if you ran a trip that was not a turn-around they tried to get you a sleeper cab, with a working AC/heater. Now if you and the switcher were on good terms it would usually work out...if not, well you get the picture. They did , however say if you had a unit that did not have a working AC/heater they put you up in a motel til your break was over, now that I think about it, that was when the 8 hour rule was in effect too.

Any one been through refresher training in San Diego or Riverside counties? Whats the refresher cover? Cost? Have all endorsements and permit already, just trying to find someone willing to help me out with a truck to test in at dmv for the road test portion to finish up and go to work. have 6 different possible jobs once i get license finished.

Of course, you all can avoid the idle time hassles at a company and get your own truck and foot the bills. Then you and the carrier can both be happy. I am always amazed at how some just want to find a way to burn up their bosses money. They seem to take a different approach when it come out of their bank account though.
