The premise to that logic is that a driver that might only idle a few hours a day will run an apu every hour they're stopped because it's there. I agree to a small extent, mainly in the case of fair weather. The fuel savings claims never take into account user habits.

Those that say an APU uses more fuel than the main engine are wet in the head. My big engine uses about a gallon an hour idling. A APU uses even on constant run won't use that. I THINK the one I had used about a pint an hour.

    I have a better solution.

How about the steering wheel holders that DON'T like their carrier's policies go and find another JOB! Quit yer belly aching, turn in your resignation and walk across the street to a new job.

no doubt. I try to run mine as little as possible. Bunk heater is another story. I have 4 windows in my bunk. If I can't get a nice breeze off those, it's stone dead calm for wind or I'm in a well protected area.

That's what I heard only a pint an hr.I mean how can they use more fuel then the trk. They're alot smaller then the fuel tanks.Do they really keep ya warm in the winter and cool in the summer?I have'nt been that lucky to drive for a company that cares and values their drivers with APUS.I'll back that up a bit,my company has APUS in most their OTR trks but im a local driver,so I don't get that added luxury.

They struggle when the temps go under 0 or over 90.

It was 30ISH last night and I only ran the bunk heater.
