Lots of high paying truck jobs out here in alberta. Logs, oilfield (cement/sand/equipment). Heavy haul, over dimensional etc.

I was doing over dimensional until last May. I switched to linehaul running north to mines north of Ft. McMurray. Drop and hook, home daily, 5 days a week. I make $41 per hour doing that.

The general freight stuff and local p&d doesn't pay as well but you have choices. Heck front load and roll on garbage s.tarts at $30+ per hour.

You guys are lucky then but i’m not willing to uproot , sell my house and move to Alberta just for more $$$ . If i was struggling to pay my bills and wanting to own a home down the road then maybe
. I’m certainly not making a ton at $25 a hr but i’m surviving and still buying crap i don’t need like my new to me 2011 side by side and brand new trailer . so i guess i’m not doing too bad and really don’t want to work weekends anymore for a few dollars more so maybe i’m stuck where i’m at

I can get $25-$30 an hour driving for the odd local farmer.
Houses here in rural Saskatchewan can be had for under $60,000.

Thinking of leaving ontario myself. Just don't know where to go. Alberta seems like a good option but heard the winters are brutal there.

Yeah, winters are pretty tough. Not unusual to have weeks of below -30c. Southern alberta get Chinook so that breaks things up but you still have extreme cold and snow/ice covered roads to deal with for months on end. I scraped frost off my windshield yesterday and am seeing 0 degrees on my run already several times a week now.

This year looks good going into the fall, but really snow can happen anytime.

Nah, winter is easier for driving out here. Once it gets cold it stays cold so we hardly ever get black ice, at least edmonton and north. N you get used to the cold anyways, at least I am. I don't even own a winter jacket.

Also enough jobs provide housing, so moving out here can be easy.

If i were to leave Ontario it would be Nova scotia or Alberta . problem is everyone else has the same ideas it seems . I’ve heard a lot of people are moving out to Alberta especially from Bc because it’s so expensive to live there now

Yeah, we are definitely growing in population that's for sure.

I like it here, grew up in Ontario, been out here for 40+ years now, marries, kids. It's definitely home and I like being close to the mountains.

As mentioned above the cold does make the roads decent to drive in the winters where I am near Edmonton running north.

When it's cold the roads clear right off and it's pretty good driving.

Nice thing about the extreme cold, the truck stays nice and clean.
I watched the forecast and if cold weather was coming I knew I could wash the truck just the day before and it would stay clean for weeks .
