The 2 times it happened to me it was no big deal. The truck just pulled more and more to the dead tire. Neither event was a "blow out" I don't think the tire came apart. It just went flat over a few seconds.
What's it like to blow a steer tire?

What's it like?
Well it pretty much blows.S M D and dngrous_dime Thank this. -
Had steer blow on Ohio turnpike once, loud bang and then it felt like driving on a gravel road at 65 mph. The steering wheel shook and the truck rumbled to a stop as I coasted it to the shoulder.
Another time, I had a tire nearly join me in the front seat from a Schnider trailer. Glass everywhere, and I didn't even have time to duck. -

I had a steer tire go out. The sidewall ripped, but I was surprised when I pulled over and found it still had lots of air in it.
There was a plastic liner (actually part of the tire) in the tire that was clearly holding the air back pretty well.
As I stood there looking at the tire air was "popping out" as the liner expanded, then retracted. It was like slowly blowing air out of your mouth with your lips closed. Poof poof poof. -
This video was uploaded in 2009. I got the link via an email. I thought it had some good information.

What's it like to blow a steer tire?
I wouldn't know, but a friend of a friend said the steer tire seemed to enjoy it.WisconsinF150 and DC843 Thank this. -
A dear friend of mine lost both of his right hand drive tires on a single axle international dump. He lost it while loaded with rock on a 695 flyover oh... 5 stories above the ground and a 20 mph restricted curve coming up. While cars filled in his options.
He should be dead. Maybe that rock escaped and killed a dozen people, they should be dead. The whole truck and surrounding emergency problem should have been the very last sight of this dear journey in the earth. Should should should.
Nope not today. He got out of that situation.
Ive seen the rubber on that barrier, Ive seen the metal gouging on the barrier. Ive seen the damage to the dump truck.
To this day no one knows how in the world he was able to get out of that one.
My theory involved the bridge deck being severely slanted to the inside setting up for the 20-25 mph kink below as another lane came up front right. If that was a normal deck (Define normal, no such thing exists...)////BUMBACLADWAR and Lepton1 Thank this.
