I'm in the process of getting my CDL at a community college/driving school...and have Pre hire letters from two companies. Is it wrong to tell both of them that you want to work for them....and let them do their investigations..then really pick one? I just don't want to wait too long to get started...I need a paycheck. I'll do whatever is acceptable in this industry. Everyone says you can't trust a recruiter...do they expect you to be honest with them?

Markus, turn about is fair play. They will play games with you so why not be a step ahead of them. Pre-hires mean nothing so if you had 10 pre-hires I would let them ALL do their applicant screening.
Find a job @ an LTL carrier. It will be far more rewarding than working for a "coolie" TL carrier. -
Prehire means just that,you are not yet hired,When you get to the terminal and they check out your paper work,drug and medical tests,then the driving test;after that point they decide if they will hire you.Many people get sent home for failed medical/drug tests or not having the correct paper work in order.
It's advisable to get as many prehires as possible, then go with the one that suits you best. -
I had 7 company's that I was talking to, and I led all of them to believe that I was only interested in their job. In the end I picked the one that was best for me and my family. Home every weekend, decent pay, well maintained equipment and many details too numourous to mention. And the thing is, turning them down for thier job does not hurt your chances for a job with them down the road. And like whosedog said, your not hired untill your signing paperwork and even then it is probationary depending on, oh, more stuff than it's realistic to list. But, choose carefully, because you need to keep that job for a year. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. But once you have a years experience there are jobs that will open for you that aren't options for you now.

Pay your cards and let them make the decision for ya, if can pay off. When I first started out I looked at TMC and Maverick. In a nut shell TMC was a better fit but maverick paid more during training. I told TMC the situation and they sent in writing if I signed with them I'd get Mavericks pay during training. I think at the time it was $150-200 more than they were offering. So playing companies against each other can pay off. Just do your homework and good luck

They won't have a problem with telling you that they're interested in you, and then leave you sitting hundreds of miles from home at a bus terminal, with some BS story about how you don't meet their standards. Do remember that they may put you on a do not consider for hiring list, but that isn't too concerning to me.

Best thing is to get as many pre hires as you can, but as it was stated earlier, "pre Hire" doesn't really mean anything just that they have some interest. Just like going to orientation, you aren't hired until you get your driver code and a fuel card in most scenarios. Good luck to ya.

Nothing is wrong with that. I did the same thing, even back when I considered joining the military. Having recruiters from all the branches fight over me was pretty funny.
