At most companies,
its MYOFB .
not sure about swift.Freebird135, hunnerbunner, end of the road and 1 other person Thank this. -
They say they should only be done legally and safely, and should be avoided if you can. If you are in an accident as a result of one that is considered one of the types of accidents they can terminate you for, like rear ending someone. So they don't prohibit them all together but its your ### if you cause an accident.

When I was there they were a no-no, firing offense. Been gone awhile (1.5 years) so they may have changed.
The Challenger Thanks this. -
WHY?!!! Why do you need to even ask this question???? WTF
end of the road Thanks this. -
I did u-turns....i went around the block.....its alot of stress to put on a spread axle to do a u turn. But i did flatbed and i wouldnt risk a u turn for the sake of the trailer even if the road was empty...

What is the U-turn policy at Rife Carbonics ??
If you make a U-turn should Joe Citizen call it in to your company ?
If you have a woody for Swift, please don't take it out on some poor driver.
Perhaps instead file a complaint, or write an editorial article..............trucker_101, BigShrek72 and Injun Thank this. -
When I was company, four years ago, U-turns were allowed if done legally and safely. Still the same policy today. They actually have a training video specific to U-turns. If that driver made his turn with the light and in a place where they are allowed and had the room to complete the turn without damaging his equipment or anybody else's property, he was okay in doing it. Busy intersection or no.
My suspicion is you are asking because you were inconvenienced by a half a minute. If that. This isn't Werner, where you will be fired for doing a U-turn in a parking lot. Over here, they actually expect their drivers to drive....and give them latitude to make their own decisions. As mentioned above, responsibility comes with those decisions.
Basically, if you don't want the responsibility of a preventable, make a different decision. Sometimes, there is no other option. Like last week, when I was trying to get though a confusing construction zone with five different detours. I was trying to follow the oversize detour. Figured if an oversize could navigate it, I should be able to as well. Unfortunately, at the point I was supposed to turn left, there were two other detour signs pointing forward and the detour pointing left for oversize loads was not labeled for oversize. It only said, "Detour." I chose foolishly. And ended up proving a 53' trailer can make a U-turn on a 40' wide street. With curbs on both sides and without hitting anything...while on the phone with dispatch, describing where I was and what I was doing. After I got turned around, dispatch guided me to a route that got me out of the area safely.
As far as calling in on this driver, why? It doesn't sound to me like he did anything wrong. You're not allowing sour grapes to cloud your judgment, are you? I always thought better of you than that. I'm with Numbers on this one.BigShrek72 and Everett Thank this. -
You let the guy dig his own grave unless he's being a total arse that is endangering other people. We all do Uturns but a busy intersection is not a good choice. Many four wheelers will do a rolling right turn on red and you're screwed. Plus if it's busy means he's doing a tight Uturn from the left lane. What's your tail swing going to do if a 4wheeler pulls beside you. There are just better choices than a spot where alot of things are going on.

Injun,
I was not inconvenienced at all. I just observed something and wanted to know the policy in regards to the action the driver was taking.
@123456,
I care about my fellow drivers and have a heart unlike some people who call themselves a driver.
