They called me today and left me a message. I had just gotten done working a good 13 hour day today and had to go see a guy about a thing, but I'm going to call them back.

I spoke with a recruiter with YRC today. He told me I would start as a casual pt dock worker for overnight and weekends, on days off I would train for my A license. After 3 months he says I would test for A and get hired on as city driver but being low on totem pole a lot of the time would be on dock. He told me to come to the job fair next Saturday, seemed happy I had my haz endorsement already. He explained the starting wage, 17.90 with 5% over next 4 years, health insurance paid 100%. I hope they hire me and train me. Yellow was real big when I lived up north in Chicagoland growing up. I wasn't aware of the purchases or "YRC" name when I initially tried finding them on glassdoor.

id go for it, there is not a lot out there that can compete with teamsters freight, as far as quality of the job , even with the 15% pay cut, its still a comfy, high paying job, with good benefits.

Yea I'm excited to go to job fair next Saturday. PT casual dock while they train me for an A license would work out great I think. I start fedex at 3:30 pm only til 9 or so, than I think I could go in overnight to YRC. I read all the reviews on glassdoor from current and past YRC employes/yellow/ roadway reviews from all. A lot of negativity but some positive ones too. In my case, if they can show me the ropes of driving tractor trailer, get my experience with good insurance and decent pay it would be a win win. Not sure if the pay cut comes before pay or off the top of earnings?

if you are on pt dock, its only 11.50 until you get your cdl, then you go to around 18 an hour, to a little over 21 an hour, with ot after 8. its supposed to be starting at 22, and going up to around 26, but the costs of free bcbs, overtime, and 2 dollars an hour going into a retirement plan still make you a well paid driver compared to most on the road.
others pay more, but have holes in their compensation package. one gives their drivers 26 an hour and 60 cpm, but they pay 100 a week for bennies that aren't as good as ours, and their city drivers get NO overtime pay, and their road drivers go on breakdown/delay/layover at less than 8 dollars an hour. another one pays their drivers 25 an hour and 60 cpm, but they get no miles, expensive insurance, and are expected to work the dock half the night, so you don't get many miles.Midwesttrucker, imtimmy and road_runner Thank this. -

I was contacted by the terminal manager in Charlotte today. Said they want me to run OTR for them. It was supposed to be an interview but instead he called an hour early and just asked how soon could I get in and take a physical and drug test. I live 100 miles from Charlotte and when I asked how that would work he told me he has drivers that come in from 300 miles away and stay in a hotel in Charlotte a few nights a week between runs. I would have to make some serious coin for it to be worth spending money on hotels. He quoted me .44 a mile and I believe $17.88 an hour to start, which doesn't sound like anything special unless theirs a lot of hourly pay? Do they run sleepers or have day cabs and take their 10 hour break in motels? Are they paid hourly DURING the 10 hour break? I'm trying to get a feel for the earning potential, especially just starting out on the "extra board".
Can anyone shed a little light on what type of operation the OTR position is? I tried to get more info today but he was heading into a meeting and he will be calling me back on Monday to set up my physical but I need more info about the position first, thanks!Last edited: Jun 12, 2015

you finns be in a hotel son ands you make like 19 an hour and like 52 cents a mile and free health care but a terrible pension 25 a year per month when retire you work 30 year you get 750 a month

You don't get paid for 10 hours in the motel, then at some point you go on hourly pay.
