I woke up dead once, but the dispatcher said this is a hot load and "We don't have time for this crap" and made me drive anyways.

Companies still pay as little as .34 cpm? I miss driving team with my husband where we were netting $2300-2600/week (combined)with Old Dominion Freight Lines. My starting pay 3 years ago was .48 cpm with them; when I had to leave (after 2 years) I was at top pay of .60 cpm.
Shop for a trucking company that pays better than .34 cpm team OR solo. ODFL starts solos at about .44 cpm, pay increases every 6 months, plus annual raise, benefits and home time when YOU say it's time to go home. Not "great home time" as advertised by some trucking outfits that think being home for 2 days after being on the road for 3 or 4 weeks, but actually your call. Also, ODFL does not make you sleep in the truck when you're on a 34 hr reset like other companies. They will put a team in a hotel or motel room during a 34 hr reset.
My hubby is driving solo (again) and is home every week for 1 or 2 days, his choice. Very rarely does he go out for 2 weeks (spoiled! LOL), but that is only to make extra money by getting more miles. Additionally, he doesn't sleep in the truck (because solos drive day cabs, not sleepers), Old Dominion puts him in a motel or hotel room that they pay for every night he is away from home.
And some of the terminals will hire straight out of an accredited truck driving school, or train you themselves while you work the docks to obtain your CDL.
    GOOD LUCK!!

I know this is an old post, just saw the last post, but I'll add my two cents and I do want to thank the other drivers for there valuable input. The advantage to me of team driving is when you can have somebody helping you spot to back up and when you team you get to see more of the country. The disadvantage of teaming is when you get a new teammate that is not compatible.

Right now in that dilemma and after the phone call I had with my co-driver I am to the point of calling the head fleet manager and swapping out or going back solo. Basically he telling me and not asking me about his new relationship in Huntington and how if we have time before delivering he wants to stop there...oh no buddy since that's how you feel it's time for you to be by yourself. That's how I feel. Yes some companies don't much at all when it comes to teaming and when I had my first co-driver even though we got $0.34 split we were getting miles, but he felt he was not getting paid enough. I feel that if we out running and going from coast to coast we are running good, but to each his own. I get the new co-driver after been solo for a few months and it look like I did more sitting and dealing with his bull crap then moving. Your co-driver has to be a good runner and know his stuff in order for things to work. And I am still trying to put two and two together on how a trucker can be directionally challenged.....
