If home daily and home all weekend jobs are paying close or more than a lot of mega OTR, then why do OTR?

My last van job was mon-thurs on the road W2 and I brought home at least 1,100 after 15% for taxes...

I'm told mega dedicated is home nightly bringing home at least 800 after taxes, and they hire anyone...

Some of us like to run the roads and travel. Money is important, but job satisfaction is more important.

I'd lose my mind doing the same thing every day, on the same roads. Nah

Someone else here (I forget who) somewhere else on the Forum said it best when they said.....(it was something real close to this):

"Home daily is just a job--but OTR is also an adventure"

And for the right personality type.....that is a fairly accurate observation......:p

I haven't been out there yet. So I am definitely speaking from the noob but someone with real life experience. The OTR aspect is going to see other things. Taking home time near the Grand Canyon or maybe taking a load to Georgia, arriving early to take an Uber into Savannah to grab a bite to eat. This is one of the appeals to my Gf and I, neither of us are intrested in daily routine of driving a truck locally.

If you're single with no dependents, and you can use someone's address, you can save money and maybe possibly have a retirement.

Local jobs where I live pay less than half what I make OTR.

The attraction is money, money and money.

Yes I've done both. I'm on the road (OTR) and miss being home so I go home and drive a local job ( Aggregates, LTL freight) then I miss the road and go back out. Been times I said I'm done trucking, go home, usually sell cars, then back on the road months later. Had a 100 jobs, lived in a 100 places, guess I get bored easily. But, I did not like being on the road and married at the same time, although one wife was a driver, we ran team. Much more fun being solo and over the road. Can you say "adventuresome" ?

Some people don't want to spend every day in city traffic. Some people want to see other parts of the country.

    bzinger and Seth0194 Thank this.

I was OTR reefer for a year and came off the road last month to tend to aging parents and try to save a relationship (it failed anyway). Right now I really want to go back out.

I figured out that I tend to go for jobs where you have to go all in. I had to leave the service at 20 years but I would have stayed as long as they would let me. It's definitely not the money.
