Which one will let me work “non-stop” for 7-10 weeks, and then take 2 weeks off? otr, I have everything I need to enjoy the downtime on truck, but getting a mini-cation is totally worth it.

    Redtwin and Chinatown Thank this.

Its me, the open road, good music, job freedom, scenery, good food, less routine. It's only a handful of available local jobs out there that pay OTR money. Most local jobs stay filled, then there's miles long waiting lists. I did the local thing, I'll take OTR any day without a 2nd thought.

Why did you have to leave the service or it that personal?
Used to be "up or out", but there was a loophole for that very few knew about.

It was an up or out situation. Sometimes referred to as High Year Tenure (HYT)

I've seen that. What I told sailors to do is extend vs. reenlist. Need a connection in the Personnel Office and a CO that needs retention to go up. Can't reenlist past 20 yrs., but nothing in the rules says you can't extend.
Maybe that loophole has been closed now.

Sometimes can call the detailer and request recall to active duty. Those guys are used for ships in drydock or being re-commissioned because Fleet Reservists being recalled don't count against the manpower allowance.

You know it's a good OTR job when the dispatcher says, "You ready to go home yet?"

Grumppy, bzinger and bryan21384 Thank this.

Yeah, I love it. "Ready to go home yet?" "..Uhh, depends on what's available." Get some nice coast-to-coast runs that way.
