One of the places I am looking at, you have to spend 7 weeks with a trainer before you can go solo. That got me to thinking, is this the norm? How long did any of you go with your trainer before going solo?

some companies are longer, some are less....it all really comes down to YOU and how YOU do the job...

do you wanna screw around..?? then YOU will be with a trainer for a LONG, LONG time..

do you wanna LEARN and be on your own, EARNING BIG MONEY..?? then YOU will apply YOURSELF and get it done.

Zero, zip, nada days. 10 orientation, tossed the keys and told to go haul freight!

At USA they have certain amount of hours. If the trainer feels you need more training you get it. If you just plain suck, it will not be good.

What ever a recruiter tells you ,remember,he's paid by commission, only makes $ if he signs you to his outfit,so think used car salesman,if it's not in writing,it's probably BS.

The other thing is the time they give you to be trained doesn't include the time spent waiting for load assignments, slow shippers receivers, breakdown repair time, foul weather delays, trainers home time, your break during training etc. These delays can easily double the training time quoted by the recruiter, but you will be paid your trainee rate for all weeks you are OTR,rolling or standing still;company drivers only get paid when the wheels are spinning.
