    ummmm....

    OK....

But if there is any to be concerned of, you will know LONG before you get to the summit of the pass.

You haven't run mountains have you?

Your first post suggests that you'd be hauling a three-axle tractor, not driving it. But either way, okidokie's route is one I'd take. Why wouldn't it be safe to cross the Rockies on I-70?

if there is bad weather on the summits, you'd be required either to wait it out or chain up. Drivers choice.

do what you feel comfortable. If you don't have chains, you'd be waiting.

    Otherwise, .....

Dang man, enjoy the few of God's country and go for a drive.....

Well, you could stay on 80 and drop down 15 at Salt Lake City, but that's longer and you might run into bad weather in Nebraska or Wyoming or Utah. Any route you choose between 70 and 40 could put you in a bad weather situation, and 40 doesn't go through Vegas. Really, okiedokie's route is the most direct one. Bobtail, you just drive up the mountain and down the mountain; nothing to worry about. It's like driving in So Cal, just a wee bit higher in altitude.

Check weather sites and plan yer trip accordingly.

    To the op,

I would take the route okie layed out for you however an alternate would le as follows. 90 to rapid city. 79 to 18. 18 to 85. 85 to 20 in lusk Wyoming. 20 to 25 north. 25 to wy 220. 220 to 287. 287 to 80 West. 80 to Utah exit 146. Take 40 to the stoplight. Can't remember road number but its marked. Take that over to 15 then 15 to Vegas. Still have mountains but not as severe plus if its warm enough the college gals at Brigham young may capture your attention. Easy route but not the most direct. Keeps you off of parleys summit but seriously your bobtailing. You will be fine over on 70.

You got a good "Professional" answer from okiedokie. If you are worried about doing down a grade which such a light load just stay on I80 over to I84 drop down into Ogden then down I15 to Vegas. You won't go down much of the grades then.
