I'm getting tired of working at this company. I want to quit, and I should give notice, but it really feels like it will be awkward working another 2 weeks or maybe a month after I've already said I'm leaving.
Also I like my driver manager a lot. I think he's a great driver manager. But my overall situation here is not to my benefit. I have no idea what affect it will have for him, but I've heard driver retention figures into their bonuses somehow.
Is there any polite way to leave? A way where you feel good about it?
What's the best way to quit a company?

Get another job lined up, take a leave of absence and once you got the other job tell them you are not coming back don't worry about your manager you are just a driver for him just like anybody else don't think you are special for any company they want you as long as you can make them millions anyway what's your next move?

Giving two weeks is most respectful thing to do about it - that gives them time to line up somebody else, get them drug-tested, approved, and lined up for your truck. Should also allow you to feel better about it. Is there a way to get your situation better where your at, perhaps switch fleets? Your DM more than likely oversees 25-40 other drivers, I'm not sure he has that much time to think about it being awkward between him and Johnny in truck 8456. Hopefully you already have your foot in the door at the next place?

I believe the best way to quit is to ask for a raise. If they can't meet it, then tell them you are sorry but you need to find a better paying job.

Yes, you will most likely be let go. You will be able to draw unemployment. But if anyone is wanting to quit they should have already figure out where they want to go so that was not my concern. His friend gets a retention bonus for keeping people around. One way to do that is to raise the wages. The OP wants to find a way to quit without making his friend look bad. Asking for a raise is a win win.

Ask for more home time. When they can't or won't. Time to leave.

Quit with notice.
