Must be psychic =) its not like i think they're horrible, my biggest issue is the lack of communication,it'll be nice talking to my boss face to face and plus its local port work so I'll be home every night(also a plus)

All,good advice.Basically dont argue or make a scene before you quit. Its pretty nice to be able to use an old operations manager as a reference(especially if you have a lot of time at the place. One time I wanted to quit and tried the asking for a raise thing.Suprisingly instead of quitting I walked away with a $2 an hour raise.Had to wait another year to quit but suddenly the job wasnt so bad.Of course never quit under a load and give two weeks notice.I gave notice trained my replacement drivers ,did an exit interview and left knowing they would give me a good reference. This is ideal. If you ditch the truck or no call no show(leave them in a bind or p... them off,Ive heard of them trashing your DAC or saying you refused to go take a drug test. Their word against yours and end up having to go thru aSAP program and no future employer will hire you.Tell them you're having problems with your marriage or girlfriend, moving or something like that.Just need to take an extended amount of time off and just never go back.

Don't give them a two weeks notice, I've never heard of a company giving a notice to an employee when getting rid of him/her.

Get written receipt of turning the truck and other property in, that way there is no chance of "abandonment" on your record.

Turn the truck in where you got it. I read about some drivers dropping trucks off at satellite yards and stuff. They still have to recover it. If a new driver chases a truck in the beginning is an exception. That truck goes back to the terminal.

It might suck but there is a bus ride there and a bus ride home. Those long distance companies I'll usually plan the quit. Get you some home time, clean the truck out and when you go back out with minimal stuff do your best to get back to the terminal. Tell your dispatcher some lame story how you have to get your truck worked on and they'll route you back. Make sure it's good and clean and take plenty of pictures with hopefully the terminal and name visible in the background.

Fighting any discrepancies requires proof. Document everything.

Then there is the non traditional approach to quitting.

Go break your leg and get a couple weeks off at the house. After about 5-7 days the company will come get the truck to keep it rolling. They can't charge you with abandonment because you are on medical leave. Then between healing and returning you can quit. Painful but effective! :)
