I was just reading a recent article in the Midland,TX area about the present boom. It said "experts" say as long as oil stays above $80 a barrel, the oilfield work will continue.

The bakken will continue to chug along as long as oil is above $60. Should be a long haul!!! ......we hope.

KiloByte, can you say which hiring company you were talking about? Would be a good thing to know before using them for all out there still looking for work.

I don't know about ND, but in Midland you do have to go through SOS when applying with Schlumberger. It was a pretty simple process. Just don't forget to complete all their surveys at the end of the application, or you'll have to go to their office in person to do it.

Well that's your problem right there - stop using Craig's List. I know from first hand experience that Nabors will hire newbies in the Permian Basin (but not out of Victoria). Key Energy will also hire newbies (both Permian Basin and Eagle Ford areas). Timing is everything. I missed out on a couple yards because they already had their quota of newbies. I'm sure those yards will hire more once they've trained the worms.

I've also heard that Basic will hire newbies, but I haven't confirmed this personally.

Everyone's experience is different, but I can tell you it took me three weeks of applying and waiting, applying and waiting, and then finally I got the job I wanted. I don't have any previous driving or heavy equipment experience, but I have a spotless MVR, and a nearly spotless criminal record (one misdemeanor from spring break 21 years ago). I also have a solid work history with no gaps (I might have been making peanuts, but I was consistently working).
