I heard about the WIA grant but I thought I wasn't elegible so I just payed $2000 out of pocket to get my B. I never drove a truck before so I was nervous getting into it and just wanted to take it one step at a time. That turned out to be a mistake so I am now looking to get the WIA grant and go back and get my A. I really hope these companies aren't thinking that when they see I went to get my B but you do bring up a good point that I never thought about. I wish they would just think the reality which is all financial (and of course me being a little stupid and rushing into it lol).
I'll definetley try those places that you mentioned. My plan is to get a B job, get used to everything and then go back and get my A and just go OTR for 6 months or a year until I can come back and get a better local job.

"Hey dude. I have a suggestion for you. Before you try to make someone look stupid try to read the entire post word for word. That way you don't make yourself look stupid. Just a friendly word of advice."
Sonny, I don't have to try to make you look stupid, you're real fine as it is.
I'm just tired (and alot of others are too) of people coming into the trade expecting to be treated as tho they're something special. You passed a driving school. Well congratulations.... big hairy freakin deal. Now you're gonna go to school.
I don't really doubt that you'll make it eventually. But when you have a few years and miles on you let's see how patient you are with newbies. -
I have no problem telling someone the way it is, out there on the road ,when they make a mistake and do thinks without asking questions....
This is a different forum though and I have much more respect for someone asking questions. I know that when all the posts start sounding like whiners, I have to look in towards myself because I'm an angry person in real life.
Step back for a minute..... Can you make the same assessment of your self? -
You said a few times about a straight truck being different from a tractor trailer, you do realize if you have a tri-axle you can wind up grossing 75,000lbs give or take a little bit. Did they teach you anything about lifting your tag axle when making sharp turns? (remember that if you get a driving test, if they ask you to use it). Goodluck finding a job man.

I applied to 30 places and did not get one call. I am not whining. I am wanting to know how in the world someone is supposed to get a job driving a STRAIGHT TRUCK (yes i will use caps for you) when they all want at least 1 year experience. I am simply asking what companies might be willing to hire someone without any experience driving a STRAIGHT TRUCK. I am not saying that I am anything special because I graduated a school. I mentioned that I graduated from a school so people here would know. I think it doesn't mean anything. I don't think it makes me a better driver. I am very well aware of that. However, I understand that the insurance companies are running most of the show and they look at things like certificates (which us drivers know are BS) and make a big deal out of them. God forbid a "newbie" truck driver is trying to find help getting a job driving a STRAIGHT TRUCK. You know, the ones that DON'T haul 80,000 pounds, cost $100,000 and carry $1,000,000 loads.
I am talking about a SYNCHRONIZED 6 speed 20 ft box truck. Heck, a lot of these STRAIGHT TRUCKS are even automatic! I think it's absolutely ridiculous the experience that these insurance companies want for the STRAIGHT TRUCKS. A couple people here explained in a civilized way (hardlyworkingneverhome) about how the more experienced people are getting layed off from these trucking companies like S&S, Bozzuto's, etc and they are my competition. That makes sense to me and I'm not expecting someone to hire them over me. You need to lose the ego and realize that every "newbie" does not think that they are as good as you, the all mighty veteran trucker. -
I do realize that you can gross a lot of weight on a tri-axle. There's a good reason for those 3 axles lol. 80,000 or 10,000 lbs - it still can kill you either way lol.
Thanks for the info though man I do appreciate it. I'm not even looking to get into that stuff right now. I'm ready to do it and give it my best shot but I can completley understand a company like tha turning me down because I'm green. What gets me is these companies driving box trucks turning me down or wanting 1 year experience. This is what I think is an absolute joke. I'm going to be learning every day out there on the road but somebody somewhere out there has to give me a shot. -
Hey bud I would try someplace like Mizzy Const in Plainville or a JV 111 Const in Rocky Hill there is a bunch of places like these two that will put you in a Tri Axle, I know how hard it is to start people just don't get it but with CSA in charge and Companies getting scored its really hurt certain companies.but try these places out , I live in Bristol let me know if I can help I know a few people !!
