    YES!

As I'm approaching the tunnel I had this feeling in my gut like... ugh.. this is NOT the way I came in...

And, as I got closer, the cops started getting REAAAL excited lol and pointing my way!

As I approached they stopped me in the little cross thatched area.
A female officer came over (VERY nice and polite, btw) and informed me I could NOT take a tanker through the tunnel. I asked how do I get back to PA and she told me and then they waved and guided me through the area right before the tunnel to get me turned around.

However, they DID keep "rushing" me as I was approaching and I'm already in 4th doing like 10mph and 1500rpm (approximates) and another officer is telling me to hurry. Whatever, I drive it like I do/can, and proceed to make the turn, and yell out my window, "you're gonna have to move the cones!" - they tell me don't worry, drive over em!
*big grin here* OK! So I drive right smack over em lol.

The trip back was rather pleasant and a bit like something outta movie.
The West bound side was backed up a mile at least, while I'm standin on the pedal and shifting the gears back, by myself, East bound. It looked like one of those disaster scenes when everyone is trying to leave the city on one side of the road and the other is empty. Pretty cool. Sorry if I held any of ya'll up :)
I've made sure since then to get off the 17W exit. NEXT I'll be trying my hand at the WhiteStone,GW Bridge - of which, I've only done once on training and once solo, with written directions. Not gonna try it w/out planning.

    *NOTE* On tunnels:
Big Trucks MAY be able to go through certain tunnels but TANKERS cannot go through ANY.
Also, I believe all Big Trucks have to stay upper level on Varranzano, etc right?

I haven't been to NYC but I know every time I go to Baltimore I am met with a No Trucks Allowed sign at every turn.

Yes, trucks have to stay on the upper level unless told otherwise by officials.

The problems you speak of are all too true. Every night, I make a delivery in downtown Boston, in the "Chinatown" neighborhood. I can assure you that parking AT THE CORNERS are done there as well as NYC, and others.

Many times, I MUST climb up and onto the traffic island, to get around a class B truck parked just ahead of the cars parked at the corner, as that idiot truck driver double parks. It's his own place he is going to and waiting for a space for his truck.

    So yeah, all too real.

I think the truckers climbing up and over a parked car is a truckers story, as I only hear of it, but never have seen it.

That IS STILL an accident. Does anyone want to chance cameras taking all the information, for a later charge of "hit and run"??

I simply cannot or will not ever believe any cop would say, "run it over, or I don't care if you run it over, etc, etc".

Agreed- I say "Urban Legend". Heard it so many times through the years I could repeat the story word-for-word.

And it always happens the same way to every driver.... Throw it in the pile of B.S. next to the "Federal Marshall" stories.

I hadn't been in NYC since 1986-7. I thought it was fun, exciting and challenging. Worked with United Van Lines at the time and was in a K100 with a 40 foot trailer. Got around just fine, but did have to watch a few under passes. I'm sure it's way different now. I still wouldn't hesitate to go back.

Not too much different. What gets me is the bridge markings.

I am a midwest farm boy. I grew up outside the concrete jungles like NYC, Chicago etc.

There are just places I realize that my upbringing are not that compatible with and after having been to NYC once, I know it's one of those places.
