Whenever I get a new truck, I weigh the tractor will all my gear and 1/2 tank of fuel. Most of our composite trls are 14550 and I can usually scale 45,000 if loaded right. The trl weight is on the registration in the bill box.

Well, legally you can get around 45-46k on a van. It depends on your tractor.

Now, let me answer your question from another angle. The trailer tandem on a van is typically rated for 40k. Gross ratings on those trailers are typically around 65k. That's found on the ID plate with the make and year of manufacture.

So, subtract the empty weight of the trailer from the number shown on the ID plate, and that will be what you can SAFELY, not legally, load on a van.

With all the emissions crap, these new trucks, even daycabs are heavy. My Mack sleeper, as it sits with all my gear and full tanks is almost 19,000. Our daycabs are pushing 17,000 with full tanks.

Yup, model for mode,l truck for truck, I found trucks gained about 500lbs with the introduction of emissions equipment.

Yeah I always scale it again. Every model every year is different. Why don't most drivers get that?
