Hi, we are design students from the Carnegie Mellon University. It’s in Pittsburgh. We are working on a project about understanding and improving long-haul truck driver’s sleeping environment. We would like to have your inputs to get more insights and hopefully we can get some good design products for you. The following are factors we think might influence your sleeping quality, but we would like to know what’s the factor that annoys you most. If possible, can you spend 1 minute to give us a quick vote?

    1 Lighting

    2 Noise

    3 Temperature

    4 Space

    5 Viberation

    6 Humidity

    7 Safety

If you would like to know more about our project and even share some insights with us, we would be very grateful. Thanks ahead.

    1. Temperature/humidity can not be too warm or moist to induce even minor sweat. A little cold I can deal with.

I concur. It's impossible for me to sleep when it is hot and humid. The other things on the list are only minor annoyances.

Temp and humidity, especially with companies that have idle policies/states that do not allow you to idle. Noise can be an issue, but a lot of us sleep with earplugs in. Safety is an issue as well, as we are often forced to shut down and sleep in high crime areas.(One eye open, still wake up to an empty reefer fuel tank)

Design better matresses for trucks. The stock matresses are a dime a dozen and the back problems are proof of that.
    Temp control ...
And the other calls for more truck parking availability , when there's no place to park you're forced to hope for the best 2 hrs later , cops or security are running you off.

    3,6,1,4,2 in that order

Vibration actually helps, its mostly temperature for me, cold is easy to solve. But if Its hot, there isn't any sleep.

Definitely temperature and humidity. I can make do with noise, space, and vib.

Ditto on temp and humidity. If I'm sweating, I'm not sleeping. That is far and away my top reason.

Everybody and their mother is in college right now working to improve our lives!
These posts are becoming as frequent as does company "x" do a hair or urine test.

When do you all improve the roads? I heard a guy in Switzerland has a prototype for solar panel roadways. Where is the United States of America on this?
