Totally legal. I've done it myself.
Imagine. Vehicle leaves your shop. Has an accident and kills someone. Who's held responsible. Customer for refusing repairs or shop for allowing vehicle to drive away????
Totally legal. And I've done it.
I won't go to prison. -
Tell that to the police when they tell you to return the vehicle. You can ask them not to, have them sign a waiver, and call the police if in fact the vehicle is not fit for the road. That's what you can LEGALLY do. Just because you weren't called on it doesn't make it right.

I had a shop try to hold my truck, Bill was paid they were pissed because I didn’t want them doing other repairs they deemed necessary for safe operation. I got in my truck and left all while they were raising hell with me and calling the cops. Took my truck home and made repairs myself. Little piddly ####. They will try to hold but if your vehicle and bill paid #### em. different states I am sure have different regulations.
Delete I wouldn’t I have no issues with my emissions equipment. I don’t idle for extended times, I maintain my Def filter, make sure def pump purges when truck shuts off, clean the doser and or replace yearly along with Def filter yearly. The new engines require different operation than the older engines. Idling for long periods absolutely tears them up.roshea and csmith1281 Thank this. -
Have you had anybody actually call you on it, or did they let you buffalo them into fixing it?
-
They were owned by kids. Their parents approved and paid for repairs.
Without detail. 1 car had no brakes. The other car was about to lose their balljoint.
Really wasn't a big deal as @Tb0n3 makes it out to be.
Fact is. It's totally legal. And cops will agree. -
The police will agree. They're certified inspectors too.
If the police pull you over and see your car don't belong on the road for mechanical issues. You get towed.Last edited: Jun 24, 2020

When i started working on cars in 05 i started at midas had someone refuse repair on leaking brake caliper or hose cant remember now. Management was mad at the no repair sale made owner sign a not responsible waver and called police on Them as an inspector myself cant hold a car for no reason other then non payment
Tb0n3 Thanks this. -
Why do you want to kill all the polar bears??
joseph1853 Thanks this. -
So actually owned by the parents not the kids I'd bet. Let's change this situation a bit, somebody comes in with a pos that needs brakes, they won't be able to pay you for it for who knows how long, there's no body else to say yeah I'll pay for it, what do you do?
