When you start brand new at a garbage truck company, what is the training like? Is it any good? They don't set you up to fail do they?
I am just asking I know the answers can probably very from person to person and company to company.
What's the training for waste hauling like?

Depends on what your going to be driving, Portolet pump truck, Front Loader Residental, Front Loader Commerical, Side Loader Commerical, Roll Offs construction Services all different all trained different.
Some training is the same such as handling a load on fire, Landfill driving and unloading.
back in 89 90 91 I was a training foreman for WMI in Sun Valley CA. each postion was totally different.
No worries just go thru the classes pay attention, can not over sstress safey in the waste industry, can be a very dangerous place. -

Sent you a PM. Good luck getting the FL position. If it's a union or part of a mega brand/ City, impossible as a NFG. Ma & Pa it's possible.
Mike2633 Thanks this. -
The training is different at every company. But basically you'll usually go out with a trainer to show you the basic functions of the truck, some FEL (front end loader) trucks have a single joystick, which I prefer over the rabbit ears aka-2 control handles for the arm/forks. Learning to use the arms/forks to empty containers without dropping them into the compactor body, learning how to stab the container and angle the container as your raising it over the cab etc etc. It sounds a little tricky and it is, but a good trainer can have you doing pretty well within a week. I do most of the FEL training at our shop, so let me know if you have any specific questions about the truck.
