They are not horror movies/pictures. They are reality. The reality that comes from not taking 40 tons seriously. Or not having the sense God gave a goose when behind the wheel.

It's not about safety for the sake of safety alone, but more so for the insurance premiums as they will make or break an operation as well as reputation for similar reasons... in reality safety is 100% driver.

It's not just fear mongering. Driving a big truck is serious business. If you don't have the right mindset or you're just a plain idiot, someone could lose their life. Take what they are telling you to heart. If you don't want to hear it don't work for them and go with someone who doesn't care about safety and see how THAT works out.

I know that during my 1st orientation, um-teen years ago, we watched a video of a runaway truck going down the Grapevine that had burned up his brakes and lost control and crashed. Unfortunately, it was a fatal accident.

Guess the moral of that particular video was to make us realize that mountain grades is no joke. Things can happen in an instant. Better to go down super slow and live than not.

There were another half dozen or so videos, but that particular one sticks out in my mind.

So, yes, they try to scare you to a point, but their point is to have you live to haul another load.

Since office staff doesn't have a CDL or know how to drive, all they can do is show videos about it.

3-4 days of your time is plenty of time for these folks to waste each and every week to justify their paychecks.

Get used to it, this type of #### doesn't end at all these companies that have these orientations.

Scare tactics have been around a long time. Take what you want and leave the rest.

Just want you to know what happens in the real world compared to the fantasy world.

Many new drivers take driving a truck about as serious as a teen girl takes her driving whole she texts. Besides getting married, driving is the most dangerous thing most people ever do. It's just that everyone is so comfortable doing it the dismiss the danger. Wait until you see how cars volunteer to be turned to a pink mist. They have no clue how dangerous they drive. In a big truck you won't die unless you leave the roadway.

Old adages become old adages because there is truth in them. One that comes to mind reading you post is that you can descend a mountain too slow as often as you wish, but you will only descend it too fast once.
