maybe you should put some glasses on or drink some coffee to bring your reading comprehension up.. i said you come off like that to me... which is my own opinion based on you.. an opinion is based on my own judgement and assumptions and has nothing to do with you saying anything pertaining to it..

and your 2nd quoted post of mine with your reaction to my post, is the exact reason why you come off to me as a know it all and if we arent doing it your way were all wrong...

there is very few guys that i cannot get along with , but you have that personality i dislike.

So I know it all because I recommend something for anyone to do if they are interested not even pointed at you, but somehow because you want to do that same thing that I said is a good alternative... somehow that makes me know everything.

Kind of makes me think I must know something if you want to do the same thing that I did but yet it bothers you that I said that I did that...

    Well that makes sense.

I'm going to bow out from this thread because when I started it I really just thought there were going to be a few replies that would say yeah kind of seems crazy all these trucks idle with the price of fuel. At this point I think everything has been said that's going to be said about the subject so there's really no benefit in continuing.

I thought maybe some people might discuss different ways that they combat idling or how they get around that or maybe reasons why people actually do idle some. I did not expect people to tell me to mind my own business, who do I think I am, why does it matter so much to me, when I simply made a little observation. But it is easy to read between the lines.

I did not expect that if someone said that they did not want to use an expensive APU and I said that for a small price you could set up a generator if you like, I didn't realize that was going to be offensive to some people. Then again I didn't think I would hear anyone defending idling when I'm sure that shortly fuel is going to approach $6 a gallon. Knock yourself out, that makes a lot of sense.

One thing I will say about TTR is sometimes you guys get your panties in such a bunch that what you say is truly hysterical and thank you for the laugh. Really, before you have a stroke you should relieve a little pressure in your under drawers so your brain can breathe.

And thank you for the actual intelligent responses to this thread. There have been some interesting intelligent answers.

I would also suggest that the science of mathematics is the best metric to use when you're trying to really figure costs... but maybe for some folks that may be too complicated. Didn't mean to confuse anyone with all that fancy multiplyin and stuff.

Fuel may go up another dollar tomorrow let's hope not and if you have a generator or an APU it's good idea to use it and if you enjoy idling, crank it up. At least you'll get a few seconds of heat when you light your money on fire.

At any rate good luck to everyone have a nice evening and please be safe.

    .

Why don't you run a cord to your block heater then? Your engine would stay warm that way. Just a thought.

I fill the cans when I'm at home. If I run out of gas, I just don't run the generator. I don't think I'm going to run it at all now until I get the fuel pump and tank rigged in. I looked at diesel generators too, but they're expensive and noisy as hell...

    ... like an APU.

I'm going to when I put in the remote tank. I want everything rigged in semi-permanent. If it goes good during the Summer, I'll see about running it this Winter. Thing is, it's actually only 2,600 watts sustained, so I haven't tested to see if it will run a block heater and space heater at the same time.

It’s pretty obvious that you’re here to just cause trouble.

I think for what you're doing you might've been better served by running a diesel heating system, diesel heat for the cab and running coolant lines from the heater to the fuel tanks and finally the engine.

If you electric power keep an electric battery that recharges while you drive, downside is you won't have any cooling system unless you get a big enough battery and air conditioning. Both will be expensive while the heating system is cheap.

My next add on is gonna be an espar hydronic heater. Just have it kick on 2 hours before I wake up.....so my engine isnt cold. Still need to figure out the a/c thing though for the unfortunate occasion I'm down south......ugh.

You sissy boys crack me up. How did we EVER manage to get freight down the road without PS, AC, air ride, generators, or an APU, LOL??
