What's up with all the trucks idling?

I still use them on two trucks. They work great on mechanical Cats, but years ago running a BC 4 you would set the idle and go to bed. You might wake up with it against the governor or it might be at dead idle. I could never figure it out.

Yep….. being a PT system must have something to do with it. But as you said they are hard to keep at a certain rpm…..

Everywhere that I go I see trucks idling. Not one or two but probably the majority of them. Idling for hours and hours maybe days even. Hot weather cold weather warm weather cool weather comfortable weather whatever, doesn't matter still idling.

It's not good on the newer engines to idle at all, and really it's not good for the older engines either. And with the price of fuel you would just think you would see less of it.

I can understand if there's a company driver that does not have an APU, but I see plenty of owner-operators idling.

It is just one of those things that does not seem to make a lot of sense. But I see it everywhere all the time.
