If you notice, the trucking schools, use mainly pre def trucks.
Def systems are not friendly to lots of idle time.
Petes and Kenworth rarely require manual regen...international wants to regen daily.

The company I work for recently bought a whole batch of Columbia glider kit daycabs with reman Series 60 motors to avoid the troublesome emissions systems and it's paying dividends

In cold weather, the Volvos will sometimes throw up a warning that says SCR SYSTEM PERFORMANCE LOW then ask for a parked regeneration. Since Volvos don't do on road regens, the temperatures in the SCR catalyst can drop to where the urea starts crystalizing on the catalyst. This causes the SCR to not function which causes increased NOX in the exhaust. A parked regeneration will cause the temps to rise enough to cause the crystals to vaporize. Volvo calls it a Crystal Sublimation Cycle. It normally only happens in extreme cold but it happened to me in my old truck in temps just under freezing because some dolt at the shop unplugged the def line heater.

Seems to me,running your truck,in only fair weather locations, would reduce maintenance costs and raise life span and resale value.
Does it even make sense running east?

What rock do you live under? It is the care and maintenance of the vehicle that affects the resale value more than where it has been driven. Besides, if I live in the North, I probably want a truck for the North so that I know there is a better possibility that it has the winter package on the truck. Things such as extra insulation etc.

That mileage drops as the miles add up. I've got 97k on mine and don't get that 4000 miles anymore.

Im just thinking, buying my own truck,it will eventually pay off, staying out of inclimate weather, whenever, and wherever, that would be.

    1) Keep your truck
    2) Stop running California and NY port.
    3) Read Atlas Shrugged
