Explain how making money off private land has anything to do with Obama. I know it's hard for you city folk to realize, but some of us can take care of ourselves, with out government hand outs.

If ND was federal land there would be no oil boom. This country could be screaming with work if they would open the fed land to drilling.

alot of the postings i have seen are not far off from the truth a lot of low lifes out there looking to rip off the next guy to make there money. gotta be careful out there. its good to know who's who. but some are just belly archers that didn't know what they were getting into or the nature of the beast. for one thing you cant expect 70+ hours every week it all rolls in cycles once you have been doing it for a few years sometimes you enjoy the slow times. you need to be able to roll with the punches in the oil feild. a guy can make a lot of money with the right company and the right attitude but it doesn't come without sacrifice.

You got that right! Anytime I consider a move to ND all I need is 1) go stand out in the wind and cold of OK and know that is about all the cold I can handle 2) go read craiglist in ND 3) talk to my buddy about the lastest trick MBI is up too

What is wrong with MBI? Their web site looks like a good company to work for.
Arod3024 recommended them as a good company.

I have been pulling oil tankers in ND for 4 months now. This is my second tour in the oilpatch. I worked drilling rigs for 9 years from '73 to '82 when the price of oil crashed and oil exploration shut down overnight and I moved on to greener pastures. So right now, as then, its all about the price of oil. When oil was $125 this Bakken oil field was booming. Now that oil has stayed so long at $85 to $90, it is dying a slow death. The rig count goes down a couple every month. The decline has been going on for quite some time, so all the vendors are bidding each other into the dirt. So drivers are being treated worse and worse as this goes on. Many I have talked to dont get paid waiting time anymore when there is a line of trucks waiting to load or unload water or oil, and no one I know is getting a pay increase this year. Those who are being paid a percentage of what the truck makes are taking a pay cut when the rates cut from competitive bidding.

But turnover is high, so one can always get hired, with fairly quick hiring in the winter, but when the weather turns nice you will probably find that it takes about 3 weeks to get hired. Family housing is still too expensive for what the wages are, but RV parks have come down on rent a lot in the 6 months I have been here; you can get an RV space for $450. The RV parks are only muddy lots, no pavement or sidewalks or grass or trees, but you do have hook ups, so if you dont mind living in an RV then come on to western ND because there is work. Watch the price of oil, if it goes up to $125 again things will boom again, but at present prices we are on a continual decline. It's all about the price of oil.

I had a Mobile Truck repair service in Williston for about a year and a half and I must say I was surprised by the lack of integrity of some of these people. Skipping out on bills, screwing their drivers, running crap equipment etc... There are some good companies out there but you just need to use caution, go to the local truck stop and put feelers out, most are willing to let you know whos good and whos bad.

It's funny, if I need to be entertained all I have to do is read the ND craigslist transport section. You will usually find someone griping about not being paid overtime (it is my understanding you do not have to be paid OT in ND as the oilfield has an exemption), someone talking about starting a union for drivers (that won't work, if what I am hearing is true and workers are being turned away due to not enough openings) or some driver pointing out the latest scam trucking company. Keep it up ND craigsliters, you are keeping me entertained!

if you are getting paid on a percentage basis there is no such thing as overtime, if you are being paid a hourly rate you should be getting overtime. just like millage rates in the rest of the trucking world no 1.5 miles after 40 hours you agree to what your work for if you don't agree don't work for them.

most billing is done on a hourly rate so this is where some people get confused about what they actually agreed to.
