What's up with the poor quality of all these mega carrier cdl apprenticeships?

You’re not the only one. I’ve been driving since 97 and never heard the term until this forum. I’ve never been bothered enough to find out what it is. I guess I’ve always just done what is needed to get around a corner without curbing the trailer or dropping it in a ditch.

You are common for new drivers, the skills drivers acquire are rudimentary at best and spoil as fast as milk left out in the sun. You had basic skills and your backing skills where worse than a standard. The training is set up for the normal adult learner to be able to attain the skill needed to pass a basic standard. MOST people CAN acquire these skills... a small percentage just cannot do it. It is up to THEM to get the extended training if they want to obtain these skills outside of the standard training. Period

Note: You did not obtain the skill off a laptop.. you just didn't. I have trained people on huge multi-million dollar simulators and they don't give you anymore skills than what you think you did. There is only one thing that teaches and improves backing skills... and that's backing.. BUT what you did was left ACTIVE training to play on a computer and let your limited skill levels degrade..

We cannot see where you made this turn, nor how you did it. If I had a student/training go off into opposing lanes to make a turn (especially when it was not necessary) I would tend to get "condescending" and explain why your turn was dangerous or just poor. YOU don't have the experience to convince me that your turn was anything but bad. You should have taken instruction and improved your skills to the standard that your trainer/instructor was suggesting.

You do not have the experience nor the skills to call anyone unprofessional. You are a perfect example of the small percentage of people I have trained in the last 40 years who simply wanted the performance and knowledge to magically seep into your head effortlessly while not exerting yourself to obtain the skills YOU needed while the rest of your class did.

I've seen the orange path referred to as a "shepherd's crook" and the blue path as a "button hook"
