Not all loads work for everyone, right ? That's why we have load boards etc. "just say no, or yes".

The ltl's are getting bigger and heavier like 40 foot and 20,000 who ever heard of a 40 foot partial?
New Buzz words Backhaul = really cheap
Ltl/ partial= really cheap and there's those mental midget's who will try and put a bunch of this crap on trailer and claim their making money.
How about the time invested and liabilty involved? all these brain trust are doing is being the fool's for brokers to screw.
Had one offer me the great rate of 2.50@ mile going to queens NY. Broker told me I got a GREAT rate 1.73 @ mile great for who? me or you?

I enjoy working local general freight like this too and getting home nightly. When you watch the boards locally you can see some of the same loads pop. And they will try to move that stuff cheap like $2.50 or $3 a mile on 100 miles or less. That's when you hammer on them that you're local to the area and you don't know any of your buddies around the area who would even roll out of bed for a rate like that and really doubtful some longhaul outsider would bother. It works sometimes. You have to be very picky what you book and ask lots of questions about a load you've never done. It only took me a couple of months to get to where I could book 5 or 6 loads for the week in one sitting then have other workable options offered from contacts during the week and end up hauling 7 or 8 loads under or a tad over 100 miles each. It's a lot of work but fun. That is how to work local and make good money. We partnered with a local carrier who gave me many runs like this. I never booked one that I didn't get unloaded the same day, that because I asked questions and if it didn't seem right i didn't book it..

Short haul van rates do seem to be down a bit, but I'm getting ready to deliver a 400 mile load that paid $1300 to the truck. Also got me 2 hours from home, so I'm headed that way tonight and putting the truck in the shop for a 2 day oil leak fix.

There was a load posted from last week still on the board going 120 something miles. Called on it, guy asked me what I wanted. Told him I normally do it for $550.00 plus surcharge, he was gasping for air and choked out $400 was best he could do. I chuckled and wished him luck! Loads been on the board for almost a week...lol
