What's with all the weigh stations?

I have a Prepass and usually get passed through most weigh stations. Also, usually only about half the weigh stations are open anyway. BUT, this last week or two, I have been pulled in to weigh and seems like every darn Station is open. I have been weighed at a station more times in the last 2 weeks than the previous 6 months combined. I've been in the West, Washington, Oregon, California. Is it just me, or are the State DOT using this opportunity to increase their funds? Anyone else notice this, or am I just unlucky for coincidental reasons?

I used to cross a dozen scales with containers back in the 80's and when you are at 120K or whatever gross, the scaling is meaningless when they see that you are a container.

What gets me in scaling is the bathroom scales under each wheel. I don't trust those things.

If your company's safety score is out of whack they will pull you in more often.

They are definitely using the time to check drivers more than normal. Some loads are exempt from HOS rules. Some drivers will use that as a free pass to do whatever they want regardless of load.

Like rachi said, your company score plays a big part in it as well.

Well my company csa score went down below the national average last month and ive noticed i getting bypassed around all the weigh stations. The ones that have those electric signs they give me bypass and if i have to pull into one , i seem to be getting the bypass arrow to the freeway. I think ur company score is the biggest player especially out west they can be pricks

WA, OR and ID use NORPASS instead of PrePass. Expect a red light at every weigh station that is open.

At the POE for California from Arizona yesterday, they asked me what I’m carrying. I always say copy machines and they let me go.
Yesterday some lady had to see my bills, I don’t even think they know what they’re looking at.

Ohio is out in MAJOR force today as well Speed trap Smokies all over the place on I-70 and DOT swarming rest areas.

If I were to guess, it's HOS enforcement. The FMCSA suspended HOS for SOME trucks hauling SOME loads. Like maybe 20%, if that. The rest of us are still operating under HOS. But we know drivers....given a chance, how many of us would jump at the opportunity to "blow the clock" if we thought we could get away with it?

I go thru 6 DOT Scales every night seems normal business to me. No at least here in SoCal I see paranoid drivers but nothing different with DOT. Keep your speed under 62 and more than likely you'll be left alone, stay under 60 and they will never look at you.

Tailgating and speeding will certainly get there attention.
