I'm looking to buy a car hauler that I've got my eye on. And I'm trying to figure out my cost per mile. Does this look legit, or am I way off?
Let's say there is a nine car load from San Fran to Dallas TX. And pays $300 a car, that's $2700.
In that trip, cost's would be...
1800 miles/6 mpg = 300 gallons x $3.00 a gallon = $900
1800 miles x .20 truck operation costs (maintenance repairs, parts, tires, permits, insurance), = $360.00
1800 miles x .45 my pay = $810.00
900+360+810= $2070
$2700-$2070 = $630 Into business account.
?
What's wrong with these numbers? Auto transport ITT

You may want to visit with Brickman or the bar hopping Fish boy about the car hauling gigwalleye Thanks this. -
My friends all tell me the truck has to be paid first. Fuel, insurance, road taxes, improvements, tolls, accountant fees, food, telephone, wi/fi, depreciation, maintainence, income tax, truck payment, liscenses, etc... adfunitum and on and on! Looks to me as tho your .20 per mile is way to low; your .50 /ml for fuel+ the .20 is only .70/ml. I know 4 O/O well that all tell me their cost per mile is 1.05 to 1.25. The driver only gets paid what's left and you'll definately want to get several thousand in a business safety fund for the unknown expenses that Will pop up when you least expect them; somebody hits you in a parking lot, hail storm whatever. BEST OF LUCK TO YA!!!

And another question, I have a 16x9 garage door, I'm wondering how tall the tractor with the headrack is typically? I remember having a Chevy Trailblazer on #1 before and I was able to get to 14' and that sucker had to be 6' high.

I sure would like to see some of that .20 per mile.
I don't know anything about car hauling or regular freight so I will shut up and go sit in the corner -
He's talking about putting back .20 cpm for a maintinence fund. Sounds like more than enough assuming the truck is good to go.
RAG Thanks this. -
See my earlier post...I don't think you .20 is near enough to show your costs.
-
First off I doubt you will ever see 6 miles to the gallon with a 10 car hauler,....4.5 is pretty much average,..5.5 mpg is doing quite well and very hard to achieve unless your running empty a lot,.....
Secondly a full load with a one stop load and one stop unload is rare,....Usually lot's of extra miles to make extra stops,......
Thirdly,...$300 dollars a car from San Fran to Dallas?????,........That works out to about 1.50 a mile,....Not near enough to keep a car hauler on the road,...
Fourth,....Chances are your gonna be looking at $15,000 a year or more just for insurance,......
I see in your sig line that yous work for Sysco,.....Why leave a good job to risk losing it all to haul cars?????,..........
Just asking,...........
Oh,......I did lose everything trying to make a go of it hauling cars,....When it was going good I made more money than I thought possible,....When it went bad....It went bad very fast,.... -
Mine is 11'6" at the stacks,....But it has short stacks,...Pica are in my profile,........
