One concept we were thinking about would be to have the iPads act as "terminals" for the drivers. In other words, drivers enter information, inspection reports, etc., and the iPad then sends the data back to a central system that the carrier can access. It seems like this, as well as directly connecting the iPads to the trucks, would make the system much more attractive to carriers. Do you agree?
What's your opinion on electronic driver's logs?

Trucking Jobs in 30 seconds
Every month 400 people find a job with the help of TruckersReport.

Just curious where you might have seen this on the 26,000.

Xata works this way. My log book is a Galaxy Tab that connects to the ecm via Bluetooth adapter. It syncs with the server via cellular carrier.

Could be an expensive program if you are in Canada.
-
The program itself doesn't use much data, but I get what your saying.

I shut my data off before 25 miles to the border. The rates are horribly high.
2.05 per mb, or any part of one.
I usually do not answer the phone either. -
I had a DOT safety audit today and the officer told me about this app. He said he was introduced to it not long ago and it is legal and that I may be interested in it. I got my wife's iPad and downloaded the free app (not the 9.99) and I'm impressed. I am fixing to buy me an iPad mini and a airprint printer for my truck and start using it. If you figure up how much you spend on logs every year the ROI wont take long.

Paper and a pen are cheap.......

I'm new to the business but I love technology! I downloaded this app, it looks like it might be useful for daily planning. But I'm so new (don't even have a job yet, just graduated 1/25/13) I don't know what I don't know. Time will tell.
