Yes i heard Schneider usually wants a sleep apnea test, but from what i found out they will help get the test done and if needed a cpap machine they will also help the driver until insurence kicks in. USA Truck i had to pay 1,500 to 1,800 for sleep test wich i couldnt afford.
What's your take on PAM? And hiring info

What indicates that you need a sleep apnea test? I got my DOT physical and the doctor asked "do you have problems sleeping?" I said no. I don't but if I did I could've said no. Do you have a history of it? If a doctor already diagnosed it why didn't they treat it?

They test you for Sleep Apnea if your neck size is above 15 and or your Body Mass Index(BMI) is above 35. If you keep your BMI low even though you have a large neck. They may not bother testing you. But if your next size is above 15, and BMI over 35 they will only give you a 6 month medical card and you will have to get a sleep study done. So if you don't want to be tested watch what you eat and exercise.

Well PAM did turn me down but I did find out I was giving all the wrong info about my driving history. I went and got a copy of my driving history today and found out I have no points and all the moving violations I did have were more than 3 years old. I am now looking into going to US TRUCKING school and I'm going to go see if I can file a motion to get my miss removed and I will be in the clear.

Never been diagnosed for sleep disorder, then again never been tested, when i got my medical card doctor asked the same question, trouble sleeping, or falling asleep during day or watching tv.

They will ask you the questions, but you would also notice they take the measurement of your neck. In the past they never done that, and on the physical form they note your BMI as well. Some people can have sleep apnea if they fall below the standard they test for and some people who are over 35bmi and 16 inch neck can be tested and be found not to have it. It's best to just stay under the testing criteria, and some companies may have lower thresholds for testing then the 35bmi and 15 inch neck.
I tested and I had a 17 1/2 inch neck, but 33 bmi, and still got my 2 year physical card. I have since been trying to eat better and exercise more and my bmi has decreased.
They will also have on the physical form your physical appearance as in are you a fat slob, built, etc. I have a muscular build so maybe that's another reason I didn't get tested. BMI doesn't take into account muscle mass. The problem with sleep apnea is the fat in your throat blocking your air way causing you to wake up numerous times without you even knowing it. There fore feeling fatigued and you really haven't even worked all that long. -

Says your BMI is only 27.7 Say's you are overweight according to their calculations but just a few points from normal weight. I was 6'0 250 when I got tested so you a long ways from there. I'm about 235 now. Hoping to get down to 220 but 210 or 200 would be awesome.
Here's the calculator http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/ -
I'm 6' and 230 but they never measured my neck.

Some companies are more strict on the policy then others. If you just got a physical for school you probably won't get your neck size checked until you get signed on with a company. Most of the bigger companies test for it, but at your weight and height. You shouldn't be flagged for the test.
