If you stop the clock for a 3 hour nap and work 14 that just pushes back your start time for the next day.......
Another step backwards.....

Sometimes ya gotta bend the rules, fudge an entry, stretch the truth just to feel like you're still rebelling against 'the man'. 'He' might have one thumb on my jugular and the other on my carotid but he'll never gain my FULL cooperation.sourdiesel, rachi, runningman0661 and 2 others Thank this. -

Minimum wage is rising faster than the antiquated mileage pay system. I've got a friend who started a job working on water pipes and running machinery, and they'll pay him to get his CDL B. He has no experience in that field. I think he started at $18 an hour, and gets plenty of overtime. Compare that to the person making .35cpm, and it's a no brainer.
So on top of not having to pay you while you're at work fueling, securing, and filling out paperwork, you get to claim you've taken your break while doing those things. Instead of holding shippers and receivers accountable for their delays, they give you "flexibility" so you can be happy to be at work for longer while not getting paid for it.
And the head of the DOT and FMCSA are happy, because it will save $273 million or whatever. Guess who's saving that money?Bluedew, Adegon, HoneyBadger67 and 2 others Thank this. -
And what does being able to take a break have to do with any of that, or are you one of the crowd that thinks you should be paid for breaks and while you sleep too.
If you drive for 35 cents that is on you, if you think it is so bad and we are so underpaid, why do you even bother, go grab one of them minimum wage jobs and be happy.
I suppose 18 bucks an hour is good or at least fair pay, but it has been a lot of years since I worked for that, and pipeline work pays better than that anywhere in the US.Truckermania Thanks this. -
There is now a 45 day period open for comments on the new, proposed rules. No doubt the safety groups will be making a lot of noise opposing these changes. I wonder how many truckers will bother to comment.

No longer a paper logbook. All hail the new DerpBook. /sarcasm.
The reason for my grouch attitude is because hell must freeze over before they extend the driving time one more minute. It's not going to get that truck there faster. Particularly with the constant stopping. That was the one issue I have trouble with. -
Or shut down early and sleep until your normal wake up time then roll with the recap you got while you slept.
I myself dont have a set time that I sleep... I roll as soon as I can or shortly there after... I'm not into sitting out on the road for an extra 2 to 4 hours each day so I can wake up at the same time each day. Run hard so I can get home sooner and make more in less time. Last week I ran 4200 miles in 7 days, all legal without using special exemptions.otterinthewater and Truckermania Thank this. -
I agree, but what I do not understand is a guy agrees to work for the wages a mega or anybody else is paying them, in any kind of job. Why whine about something that you agreed to do? If he thinks he is worth more move on, this is a free country and there is no reason for anybody to work where they are not happy, or even in an industry they aren't happy with, life is too short for that. I know there are some exceptions, but most pepole can move on to better or worse, what ever blows there dress up. I tend to think a lot of people think they are worth much more than they actually are, in fact if everybody was paid what they are worth, many would have to cut a check to their employer every week to keep their job, from what I see. lol
Lots of drivers up here are paid much more than what any driver is actually worth, it is the law, employers have no say in the matter, I don't mind taking it either, but we are paid too much in all reality for some jobs, and the part that sucks is a sorry hand makes the same as one that actually makes the company money.mhyn, ShortBusKid, PoleCrusher and 5 others Thank this.
