Is it normal when you loose a drive axle wheel bearing to result in break of the half axle.First I saw the smoke from the brake shoe. When I stopped i saw the shoes are protruding half inch from the drum, which told me that I have lost the bearing. Then I tried to pull the half axle I found it broken two inches from the flange. I didn't expect that the small change of the angle, that happen because of the failed bearing, which I found in pieces, would lead to breakage of the half axle. Has anybody heard of anything like that?

when something like that happens, there is lot of pressure put on all the connecting parts anything is posible. i would make sure and drain the oil and try and feel for any other pieces that might be still be in there.

When the hub bearing failed the weight of the truck and load went on the drive axle which isn't the drive axles intended purpose. The only purpose of the drive axle is to transfer power to the hub.
