when you are filling oout your app and you had a felony say like 15 or 20 years ago for assault and battery or say a class D felony. Not all companys even go to canada but mine requires you to be able to go to canada, if hired and your passport is denied thats fine, we will just flag you as U.S only. but you have to at least apply for the passport. so your hired as a driver and you kept this little secret and you have been driving for a month or so, and you even have your passport. you now get a canadian load. you approach the border and obv they run a check on you. they escort you to the immigration office and tell you, you have to leave and you will never be allowed back in canada again. you ask why and they tell you, you have two felony's on your record. this actually happened a lil while back with one of my drivers and when canada denied him entry he was told to get the letter from the border agents denying him entry, I then called him and simply asked whats this all about? my driver says well they said i had two felony's from like 15 years ago and i say well did you tell celadon when you applied that you had the felony's ? and my driver said yes. i said well canada border agents are saying you had a felony for terrostic threat and larceny and my driver said yeah. i said are you sure you told celadon about this ? my driver insisted he did. i said ok. wasnt 5 minutes later i found out he hadnt. I mean this driver was a decent driver but i had to report this because 1. he was a new driver and by lieing on his app what else may he be hiding? 2. who really knows what happened with these felony's. just be honest and up front when applying for a job, if you dont somewhere down the line it will catch up with you

my first question was how did we miss these felony's ? Turns out this driver was hired by a outside recruiter, so from now on the new hires from outside recruiters will be double checked

I have noticed that criminal backgroung is a current topic in a few posts. This is making me curious about mine. I have a misdemeanor from 9 years ago. I was charged with possession of intrument of crime "pocket knife". The only reason was the cop did not like the person that was with me. I even let him search the car because I don't have anything to hide. But, he was set on giving one of us a hard time and proceeded to search us and I had a pocket knife. This was not a hinged sword or anything crazy. Is that gonna affect me at all in my search for a job?

correct BUT i have had drivers who have been issued passports with DUI like 20 or so years ago. but when approaching the border its like a hit n miss thing, if the border agents are super busy you will get through. but somewhere down the line you will be denied. i had a driver who had a dui 30 years ago and he had been going to canada for awhile, and they finally denied him. he was even issued a passport.

getting a passport with a dui isn't really an issue, but I've heard the Canadians really frown on US truckers with past dui's.....so Celadon has started the mandatory Canada thing ....yuck

MAKE SURE TO GET IT IN WRITING!!!! I saw several both at Celadon and Werner that got termed for not informing about their background...some said they told the recruiter ( at Werner) but were sold out and sent packing

I get that alot "yuck" about canada but you would be surprised about how many times you actually go, not very often, because we have two canadain fleets now and my drivers really dont go to cananda that much. having a passport is worth it for going to british columbia and calgary alone why ? because any load you get going there is gonna be like 2500 miles or so and coming out of there is all empty miles. we have no freight coming out so when your empty you will be paid to deadhead with a empty trailer from BC or CALGARY to say cali or pa or texas see what i mean good money and if for some reason you was denied at the border you just get your denial letter and we flag you as U.S only and no more canada for you lol
