    Yes exactly the converter has 2 axles, but only one tire/wheel per axle.

    Just saw a Reinhardt food service (RFS) tandem pup today. It was a 5 axle setup----tandem tractor, tandem trailer; Whatever they were hauling must have been REAL HEAVY.

    i'm telling you----the only thing the might make me reconsider food service is $2500+ per week gross AND acheived in less than 60 hours total.

    I asked one of our legacy drivers today about the tandem axle pups, GFS used to load heavy and sometime in the early 1990s the DOT started cracking way down on truck weights and for whatever reason GFS decided to scale back a little and go with the more standard single axle pup around the early 1990s GFS started phasing out the tandem axle pups however they kept that weird style of converter dolly until not terribly long ago post 2003 I think the weird 4 axle single tire converter dollies started going away. I guess those 4 axle single tire converters were an absolute pain to move around the yard they were way heavy and just made everything a lot of work. I haven't heard one person say they miss them LOL!

    I used to work at a beer distributor and they used tandem axle 28' trailers. They were probably still loaded heavy though :biggrin_25523:
