Ive always done it yearly. Is it overkill?? Probably, however I can go to the local parts house and get the belts PLUS tensioner for just a tad more then what 1 belt would cost me on the road.

I don't like setting belt tension without a tension gage. My engine has auto-tensioners on it. My reefer doesn't and I am looking to get a tension gage to put a new set of belts on it here this month.

I just thought that the "wear gage" was a nice little thing to share with others. Especially since it's free.

I'm also for saving money and getting full life out of service components too. So If I can extend the use interval even on my serpentine's, I am all for that too.

Lord knows we pump enough money into these trucks as it is.

the alt belt every year and the wider belts that run the fan clutch every 2 years. I would do them all every year, but the ones from the crank to the fan clutch are a real pain to do.

on some trucks broken belt may be expencive. for example some fan clutches are of visco type ore electrical with PWM control (Volvo, Mercedes, MAN-Navystar), so broken belt easyly damage fan clutch wiring and you have to change fan clutch ($$$$$), it is not all, on MAN engines no fan PWM control circuit protection and short fan clutch wires are the cause of ECM internal damage ($$$$)

I always have a fresh set under the bunk for the alt/ac/fan and crank/fan so my v-belts can go for long time.
